Cambridge Central Asia Reviews is an international book series which aims to provide a platform for the presentation, discussion and publication of reports and results of studies, projects and proceedings of meetings. This series aims to distribute and make the publications accessible to a wide audience including academic communities, government departments, embassies, business sectors and media providing a useful source of reference. Cambridge Central Asia Reviews will also provide an opportunity to present policy direction and the aspirations of Central Asian governance structures and organizations and a forum for the exchange of ideas with reference to Central Asian regional issues and interaction with Cambridge academic groups.

This volume aims to initiate discussion of civil society models through the case study of Uzbekistan and to increase and diversify understanding of the dynamics of the development of civil society in a global context. The authors present a review of policy directions and the aspirations of a variety of Uzbek governance structures through academic analysis of a range of relevant issues. The volume is structured in three parts:

Part 2: Empirical: Case study of Uzbekistan

Part 3: International context

and it provides a platform to discuss and formulate understanding and advice that is relevant and far-reaching rather than merely prescriptive.
